The Nintendo Game Boy Color development began after the release of the Game Boy Pocket in 1996. The Game Boy Color was first announced by Nintendo on March 10, 1998 on a press release on Nintendo's website and boasted that "The new technology will allow the simultaneous display of 56 bright colors out of a palette of 32,000." - Nintendo. Later that year on November 18, 1998 Nintendo launched the Game Boy Color in North America.
Pokemon
The second generation of Pokemon brough us Pokemon Silver and Gold which both became best selling video games for the Game Boy Color console with a total of 23 million units sold worldwide. These games only elevated Pokemon fandom further and did the unthinkable by including the entire first generation maps from Blue and Red in the new games. Pokemon Crystal also sold exceptionably well with over 6 million units sold
Legacy
The Game Boy Color will forever remain one of Nintendo's most beloved handhelds due to the legendary titles and it's cemented status in pop culture. The Game Boy Color continues to be one of the most sought after collector items in the retro gaming space.
